THE HISTORY OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC. Part 1.

How the Hell did we get here?

Welcome to the First post in a series about the evolution of Musical Technology, or as we like to call it The History Of Electronic Music and as is the case with most things being interrelated, it’s also about the evolution of our music – world wide!

Have you heard the saying that you don’t know where you’re going until you know where you been?

We’ll we decided that we’d love to know where we’re heading, and as a result, in this series we’re turning our backs on the future for a time and by looking at the map trying to see just how we arrived here.

We hope by the end of the series we and you will have a newer picture, an updated understanding of the sounds and tools we use to make and hear music on a daily basis.

As technology changes so do the paradigms that were restraining our abilities, experiences and creative possibilities.. So this series is also a salute to those pioneers who changed our paradigms and in the end changed life as we know it.

Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it?

But I put this to you.. Music like it’s close cousin mathematics is a universal language , it’s a description of the world through sound, it’s effects written directly to our emotions, our hearts..

By changing how people feel, you change who they are, So by changing the way and what the world hears, and you change the world..

That isn’t to say that the reasons we listen to music have changed all that dramatically since we started beating a stick against a tree to make our other hairy friends jump up and down..

But just like the evolution of all art forms, the mastery of manipulation, the forms of expression, this all develops and evolves as we do..
After all what is art if not the subjective reflection of the inner and outer world that we experience?

So please join us as we take a look at these parents of today and tomorrow’s musical landscape.

I should also mention that this series is designed as a detailed primer for those that are interested but know little of this history. We will acknowledge and point you toward many other much deeper sources of information as we go.

We will be concentrating on electronic music and how it changed our landscape. This means such things as the synthesiser, the electric guitar, the computer, the recorded mediums and effects generators of all kinds.

But we will not be concentrating too heavily on industrial technology, inventions that lead to the improvement or efficiency of the way to make musical instruments.

We do not discount that these improvements also have a had a large impact musically on our world.. but that is for another site and a different discussion

Do you think we left something out?
Have a fascinating story to share?

Cheers
